I was encouraged recently while reading Hebrews 11 in my quiet time. It is considered as the "Hall of Faith" passage.

It defines faith as, "Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen." Hebrews 11:1 . Faith is not this unimaginable thing. Faith is definite. We who have believed have faith in Jesus Christ our Savior.

What was amazing to me while reading this passage, was the recalling of Old Testament stories. Through each person, God accomplished amazing things. But these people also had to endure some trials before they were able to experience the promises God had in store for them.

Here are two examples, "By faith Abraham obeyed when he was called to go out to a place that he was to receive as an inheritance. And he went out, not knowing where he was going. By faith he went to live in the land of promise, as in a foreign land, living in tents with Isaac and Jacob, heirs with him of the same promise. For he was looking forward to the city that has foundations, whose designer and builder is God. By faith Sarah herself received power to conceive, even when she was past the age, since she considered him faithful who had promised." Hebrews 11:8-11

Abraham followed God despite not knowing the destination. Sarah received a promise from God in the form of her son, at the age of ninety. Though both of them experienced times of doubt, they walked by faith.

Faith in God does not mean the belief that everything will be instantly better, it is the hope that empowers us to live. God calls us to walk by faith even when we can't see the finish line. For you, that might be a future career, relationship, or circumstance that you are wrestling with.

In the midst of uncertainty (& we can all agree we have experienced this a lot lately), we can have confidence to walk by faith. Hold fast, be patient and wait on God. Because we know through the Word of God it is worth it.

"And without faith it is impossible to please him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek Him." Hebrews 11:6

How can you walk by faith today?
